Old MacDonald!

For most of my life I lived on a farm. After living in a subdivision for several years, I really miss the country. I miss the smell of the cows, the sound of the tractor and mostly the peace and quiet when you sat out on the porch. Now all I hear is cars going up and down the street all day and night, kids screaming, dogs yipping and yapping and the neighbors playing basketball at 12:30 am.

I want a place of my own where I can go out and hop on the ATV and rip and run through the woods. I want to wake up in the morning and feed the cows. I would love to be able to jump on a bulldozer and dig a hole in my back yard if I chose too. I miss having the space and freedom to do what I want when I want.

Growing up I spent most of my non-working time in the woods near the creek. We would build shelters out of the materials that were around us. We would build dams in an effort to divert the stream. We made traps and nets to catch fish in the creek. I want the same for my son. I want to teach him about nature and surviving. I want him to appreciate the plants and animals. I want him to hear the creek running over the rocks and creating a gentle, yet peaceful rumble.

I can not wait to move back to the country. It is in my five year plan. Do you miss anything about your childhood or where you grew up?
